Betty Lou's Bakery Night TONIGHT

I just realized that I forgot to send home a reminder that said tonight is Sunflower night at Betty Lou's Bakery here in Gardner. If you want to go out for a special treat tonight, please be sure that you mention you are from Sunflower and our school will get a portions of the proceeds gifted back to us for the benefit of our students. Basket Auction HELP!

Happy Tuesday families! As of today, we have gotten ZERO donations for our classroom basket for the upcoming auction on November 6th. If you know of anyone who would be willing or able to donate a give card of some sort to our "Giving Tree" basket, our kids would appreciate it! Our classrooms directly benefit from all of the proceeds made at this amazing fundraiser. We can't make it happen without you! Ms. Beverage's Bio...

Ms. Beverage Hello! My name is Betsy Beverage and I was born and raised in Lincoln, NE (Go Huskers!). I graduated from the University of Kansas (Go Jayhawks!) with a degree in elementary education. Somehow this will be my 8th year teaching first grade here at Sunflower! I taught second grade in Missouri for three years before leaving to begin my family and my adventure into motherhood. First grade is a year full of magic and milestones and I am so excited to begin on a new adventure with you child.

I have six amazing children and am currently working on Baby 7, who is debuting in early December! I am not only fortunate enough to be part of the teaching team at Sunflower Elementary, but I am also a parent to some of my own Sunflower kids. My oldest daughter, Annie, will be starting 8th grade at Wheatridge Middle School this year. My son, Charlie will be in 7th grade. Caroline is joining her oldest siblings at WMS as a 5th grader this year, too. I also have FIRST grader of my own! Josie will join the adventures of First Grade and Georgia will journey into FULL day Kindergarten, both here at SUNFLOWER! It is a joy to be in the same building with some of my babies all day. Our youngest , Audrey, is 2 1/2 and stays home with Dad during the day.

Jared and I make our home here in Gardner, right down the street from many of you, in fact. He is the night custodian at TRMS so that he can stay home during the day with our sweet girl and baby-to-be. We are blessed!

I am here to make sure that your child’s learning journey is as exciting, nurturing and successful as I expect my own children’s to be. I am so exicted to be teaching first grade teacher again this year. There really is magic that happens here in first grade. Please don’t hesitate to call or email me with any questions or concerns. We’re going to have a wonderful year together!

Hi families! Your child can read our weekly stories at home on our computer! Follow these directions to login to the site, find our story of the week and continue the learning at home!

1. Go to: http://www.thinkcentral.com/
2. On the left-hand side, click on the "Reading & Language Arts" tab.
3. Click on the "Story Town" logo in the second row (second from left)
4. Select a state (Kansas)
5. Select a district (Gardner-Edgerton USD231)
6. Select a school (Sunflower)
7. User name: firstnamelastname (example: betsybeverage)
8. Password: think
9. Click on "Search Library" (top right-hand side of the screen with the magnifying glass)
10. Select drop down bar to "READING" and then type in the text book story from above that you are looking for. Example "Ten Eggs"
11. Click "find"
12. Click the title when it appears and the story will load from our text book. WHEW!
